T-C Pups Day 22: Crate Training

Earlier this week, after a number of escapes, the warming basket was retired and the pups were introduced to their first crate. They were not fazed by their new temporary digs in the least, even when I locked the door.
I try to rotate the order of who goes in and out so the pups learn that sometimes they'll be alone. When the pups get moved into the big pen next week, there will be a doorless crate for them. The pups go in and out of the crate on their own and learn that it is a safe place. After a few minutes, it was naptime...
Clean box and now time to head back with the rest of the litter.
Once all the pups were back in the whelping box, Trixie double checked the crate to make sure all the pups were out and made herself comfortable.
Pink piggy makes a great pillow.
Tennis anyone?

Puppy play consists of pawing...
and mouthy, biting behavior. As the pups grow, this is how they learn bite inhibition.
