Weims can fly!

Savi is airborn!
Spring is finally here and the girls had a blast with puppy Ella visiting.  Ella and Savi loved running around the yard, playing keep away with sticks, chasing and wrestling with each other.

 Yes, this is play!
 Ella, 6 1/2 months old
 and they are off again...
Amazing how athletic and agile these girls are...definitely great exercise and tired them out for a little while.

Marshall new Rally Novice title!!!

Marshall, (Parker x Trixie)is now CH Grayhart's In from the Storm, RN!

Marshall earned his Rally Novice title this weekend at a double trial on Saturday in Kansas with owner/handler, Laura.  This is Laura's first foray into performance events and Laura and Marshall are doing a super job.  Marshall made his debut in the Rally Novice ring in October at the Weimaraner Club of America National Specialty and earned his 1st Rally leg with a 1st place!  Then on Saturday, in the morning, Marshall qualified for his 2nd leg and again, won the class with a 1st place!  At the afternoon trial, Marshall again qualified, this time with a 2nd place and that gave him his 3rd leg to complete his RN or Rally Novice title.

We are so proud of the hard work Laura has put into training Marshall and look forward to seeing what they do next!

Happy 4th Birthday to our Special Litter!

Mason
Happy 4th Birthday to our Special litter!!!
Sired by Zeke, CH OB's 38 Special x Trixie, CH GraytSky's I'm Not Really A Waitress, CD, RA, AX, OAJ, V, BROM Pet Partner Therapy Dog!

This litter has produced Special Stars and also taught us about an important health concern in Weimaraners:
  • Mason, CH Grayhart's Daily Special, who easily finished his show championship with 3 4-point majors, including a Specialty Major/BOW at the GSWC Specialty Show.
  • Mia, CH Grayhart's Special Request, CDX, RA, JH, NA, NAJ, NSD, RD, VX, who finished her show championship owner-handled with a Specialty Major/BOW win!  She is also a performance star and excels in many venues.
  • Trudy, CH Grayhart's Special Reserve, who with limited showing finished her championship with 3 majors!
  • Jersey, Grayhart's Goin' Someplace Special, JH (pointed)
  • Maggie, Grayhart's Special Magic
  • Matilda, Grayhart's Midnight Special
  • Webster, Grayhart's Special Edition, who was diagnosed with Hyperuricosuria (HUU), a newly discovered disease in Weimaraners.  The genetic marker for this disease was found by a team at UC Davis and a simple cheek swab test is now available to screen for this disease.  Since the discovery of this in our line, all Grayhart breeding bitches and potential sires are screened for this to avoid reproducing affected dogs.  Sadly, many breeders do not see the importance of screening for HUU and refuse to test their dogs, an inexpensive $50 test that would help to reduce the incidence of this disease in our breed.

Deja Vu

A quick glance and you may think this was Jam as a pup.  Those expressive, light eyes, although hard to see in this photo and sweet expression. This is Ella, Grayhart's How High the Moon, one of the Summit and Jam Rockstar pups, who turned six months old last week.  She is staying with us and gets to experience Grayhart Boot Camp.  She made her show debut yesterday at the Big Apple Sporting Society show and I was very proud of how well this baby did.  She held her stack and gaited around the ring, keeping all four on the floor - a big deal for a young pup who hasn't had any show training- and most importantly, it was a fun, positive experience! She is enjoying being back to her original home, with all the toys and playing with the big dogs, especially Savi.  It always amazes us how the pups we've bred, remember us and go crazy when they see us, no matter how long it has been since we last saw them.

We've enjoyed neighborhood walks and if the weather cooperates, possibly a hike or two.  Ella will go with us for two more shows with momma Jam, who competes in the Best of Breed class, to gain more exposure to the whole show scene, with its strange sights, smells and noises.

Dual Weimaraner Award for Savi!

Hot off the presses, in the March issue of The Weimaraner Magazine, is Savi's Dual Weimaraner Award page. To earn this award, a dog must have both a show championship and a Senior Hunter title.

Thanks to the Dual Weimaraner Program for this award sponsored by Debbie Moody & photo design by KellyAnn Kwiatek.

We cannot thank Denny Keeton enough for his expert training, handling and care of Savi to earn her Senior Hunter title! Savi was owner/breeder handled to her Junior Hunter title in 4 straight tests, along with her NSD and NRD.  In the show ring, Savi finished her championship easily with a 5-pt major from the Bred-By-Exhibitor class earned during the Southern Futurity/Maturity weekend.

Savi is CH Grayhart's Shear Genius, SH, NSD, NRD, V CGC

She has two legs towards her CD (Companion Dog) title and one Novice Agility leg and one Novice Jumpers with Weaves leg.  We hope to complete these titles after Savi takes time off for motherhood.

Huge congratulations to Jessica Scharff for finishing Mia-belle's Junior Hunter title today at the Sandhill's Hunt Test in NC. Mia earned her Junior Hunter title in four straight tests.

Mia, is now CH Grayhart's Special Request, CDX, RA, JH, NA, NAJ, NSD, RD, VX, (Zeke x Trixie).  She has been trained and handled to all her titles by her novice owner, Jessica.  We are so proud of all they have accomplished.

Training time

No stay at Grayhart would be complete without some training.  Ember's owners have done a terrific job training her and it was fun to reinforce what she already knows.  This pups has so much drive and attitude, and offers behavior after behavior, that you need to make sure that you reinforce the correct command and only with 100% accuracy.  Especially when you have a smarty pants like Ember!
 5 1/2 months old with a solid sit-stay!

Ember's in da shower!

Weims manage to get themselves into the silliest places!  Since this young pup, 5 1/2 month old Ember, Grayhart's Light My Fire, (Summit x Jam), needs constant supervision, she was with me in the bathroom and was quite surprised to find that she had locked herself in the shower!  She also wears a drag leash in the house for training and easy access if we need to grab her.  Always fun having one of our pups here for a visit!

Panty Party

Panty party time! Who's gonna join us? The sisters do lots together including this! Savi on the left & Jam on the right.  We do not know why, the crazy weather or what, but the girls came into their heat seasons much earlier than expected and within a day of each other.  The season lasts 21 days and similar to woman, bitches can experience PMS type symptoms including moodiness, clingyness or just craziness!  Our girls tolerate the fancy panties and of course, they are quite fashionable!

Blue crab!

Chase loves his new crab toy that his new mommy brought him when she visited last week.   Multiple squeakers, robes and plush material - what's not to love!  We are beyond excited that Chase will be moving in with his Aunt Mia in a few weeks.
