Jam & Steve in the Sporting Group at Rockland

Jam, CH Grayhart's Purple Haze,JH,NA,NAJ,NSD,CGC,V with Steve Lane, HiBourne Weimaraners, owner/breeder of Jam's sire Parker, in the Sporting Group at the Rockland County Kennel Club Show on February 27, 2011.  She received Best of Breed with her breeder/owner handling then we were fortunate to have her other dad come handle her and watch them both shine in the group ring.

Jam will be selectively specialed this year while we continue to pursue her Senior Hunter and advanced agility and obedience titles.

Jam goes BOB at Rockland KC Show

Sunday was another enjoyable day at the show with friends. Jam went Best of Breed and earned another Grand Champion point.  I showed her in breed and we were thrilled when Steve Lane, owner of Jam's sire, Parker, was able to make it out to show Jam in the Sporting Group.  It was such a pleasure to see them both shine in the group ring.

With the Sporting Group scheduled as the last group of the day before Best in Show, we had many hours between the breed judging and our group.  Again, since the show is so wonderfully close to home, we were able to go back to the house for lunch, let the dogs play and then rest up a bit before heading back to the grounds.  We spotted this cool rock structure and it was the perfect spot to get some pics of Jam.
Thanks to my pupparazzi Kellyann for taking all these pictures.

Savi wins her first point!

Savi posing outside the ring at Saturday's show
Savi, Grayhart's Shear Genius,JH,NSD,CGC, (Clay x Trixie), shown in the Bred by Exhibitor class (BBE) by me, her breeder/owner, went Winner's Bitch at the Walkill Kennel Club show today to earn her first conformation point.  She is really starting to get this show thing down and stood for exam and moved nicely around the ring.  Our good friend Lilly came to help us because big sister Jam was also entered in Breed and it is impossible to handle two dogs at once.
Jam in the Sporting Group
Jam, CH Grayhart's Purple Haze,JH,NA,NAJ,NSD,V, (Parker x Trixie), won Best of Breed to earn another Grand Champion point and it was fun showing her in the Sporting Group.

As this was a local show, we saw lots of friends and were even able to go home for lunch, let the dogs play and relax a bit before heading back to the show site for groups.  Back for two more days of shows and hopefully more points.  Plus, some of our favorite vendors are at the show so we may be doing a bit of shopping!

Winter is far from over...

Whitmore, Grayhart's Millionaire Matchmaker, (Clay x Trixie) is all bundled up for the cold weather.  We woke up to 6 inches of fresh snow...just when we were finally able to see some grass in the yard.  Good thing Whitmore and his wonderful family came to visit yesterday when the roads were clear.

Watching Westminster

Savi watching the Terrier Group.  Savi's daddy Clay won the breed at Westminster in 2007.
An annual tradition and one we thoroughly enjoy, is watching the Westminster Kennel Club dog show also known as America's Dog Show.  It truly is the greatest dog show in the world and always an exciting time, from checking online to seeing who won the breed in Weimaraners and our other favorite breeds, to watching the Group competitions and recognizing friends and handlers on TV.  The winning Weimaraner, Jimmie, BIS BISS Silhouette's Life in the Fast Lane, handled by Keith Pautz (who is also Bravo's handler), looked great and made the cut in the Sporting Group.  Another Weim relative, Schwinn, who is out of Trixie's littermate Rose x Clay, (the identical pedigree to our Clay x Trixie litter that produced Savi), went Best of Opposite.

The big news:  Congratulations to the Westminster 2011 Best in Show winner...the fabulous Scottish Deerhound Hickory with her young handler Angie!

Jam awarded Select Bitch at the BASS Show!

Jam with her Grand Champion Select ribbon
We always knew Jam, CH Grayhart's Purple Haze,JH,NA,NAJ,NSD,V, (Parker x Trixie) was special but now she is an official "special" in the dog show world.  This means that when a dog completes its AKC Championship title, they continue to compete to win Best of Breed, then compete in the Sporting Group and go for the big prize - Best in Show. They can also compete to achieve the relatively new AKC title of Grand Champion.

Jam's first time out as a special was yesterday at the Big Apple Sporting Society show.  She showed beautifully and was awarded Grand Champion Select, earning her first Grand Champion points!  She beat other very nice specials and I'm thrilled that she was recognized this way, especially being owner/breeder handled.

At work in the big city!

Trixie was back at work this afternoon in New York City doing a quick photo shoot for a big name pet food company in Europe.  She turned on the charm, greeted everyone in the studio with a kiss, and then like a true professional, got down to business, nailing every shot they asked for.  When we finished, we took advantage of the beautiful, albeit chilly day, and walked around the city.  We stopped at Lincoln Center to admire the beautiful buildings and take some shots of Trixie and her BFF.  Yes, Trix is wearing her ChillyDogs coat and her BFF has a matching headband.  Strangers even approached us asking about Trixie's fabulous dog coat.
In the background, you can see the Metropolitan Opera House aka The Met.  It is a gorgeous place and we've enjoyed seeing spectacular productions of operas there in the magnificent opera house.
 Trixie gives the best kisses!
Ooooh, and the best part...city pigeons to point!  The pigeons better take cover because next week, the dogs will be taking over the city for the famous Westminster Kennel Club Dog show.

Savi practices her show stack...

Savi, doing quick practice stack at obedience class.  The picture quality is not great and she is a bit overstretched, however she is looking good for a one year old.  Hopefully, she'll do well at the February shows we have her entered in.

Bravissimo for Bravo

 Bravo with handler Keith Pautz
Bravo, Grayhart Crescent's Bravo, (Clay x Trixie), had a terrific weekend at the prestigious benched Golden Gate Kennel Club show in San Francisco going Winner's Dog and Best of Winners both Saturday and Sunday.  This promising boy, at only a year old, is now singled out and only needs majors to finish his AKC championship.
Owners Jay and Ron were thrilled with their boy, who wasn't fazed by the long days of benching or showing in such a huge venue, and turned into a show dog as soon as he stepped in the ring, with effortless movement and confident stacks.  Well done!
