2013 Blue Ribbon Issue: The Grayhart Ads

The most awaited issue of the year, the June Blue Ribbon Issue of The Weimaraner Magazine, (the official publication of the WCA) has arrived. The Blue Ribbon is the biggest advertising issue for breeders and fanciers and this issue is sent to all AKC Weimaraner judges. It is the place to showcase your dogs and the issue is kept as a reference book for years to come. We are very excited to share the Grayhart ads from the 2013 Blue Ribbon which were designed by my extremely talented friend, Sara Renee Beaver.  Sara even took some of the photos.
We had a total of six pages in the Breeder's Showcase section. This included the pages for Jam, Sky, Mia, Bliss, Ember, Mia-belle, Savi and Bravo. An update, Mia finished her AKC championship title in May. Also, Sky earned her WCA VX2 title.
Mia-belle has earned her OA (Open Agility Standard) title and her VX2
Bliss has also received another Sporting Group placement...
On May 9th, Savi delivered 7 healthy pups, 4 girls and 3 boys!!!
It is always so much fun to plan, create and design the ads and of course, to see the finished product.

New Champion Mia!!!

Mia winning her 1st Specialty Major
We are thrilled to announce Mia is now CH Grayhart's American Woman, CGC!!! Mia is out of our first litter, sired by Parker, MBISS GCH HiBourne's It's All About Me, BROM x Trixie, CH GraytSky's I'm Not Really A Waitress, CD, RN, AX, OAJ, V, BROM, owned by Michele Gravlin & me. Thank you to Steve Lane, her sire's owner/breeder for finishing Mia with 2 Specialty Majors and all her points.

Mia showed at the Long Island NY shows, Ladies Kennel Association of America on Saturday and the Long Island Kennel Club show on Sunday, sweeping the weekend to earn the last 4 points needed to finish her AKC championship. She is the 4th champion from this litter and her dam's 9th champion.  Our other champions from this litter are Marshall, Jam and Sky.  You can see them on our website.

We not only celebrated Mia finishing but Steve and Bonnie Lane's bitch BeBe, went BOB (Best of Breed) shown by Steve, all 3 days and finished her Grand Championship title! She is now GCH HiBourne's Bartered Bride.
After showing in the rain, we celebrated by buying Mia a new toy, which she picked out and some champagne for the humans!  Once we receive the official win picture we will be sure to post it.

It truly took a village to finish Mia and our gratitude goes out to Bonnie and Steve for showing and traveling with Mia to shows and her awesome owner Michele, for taking Mia to classes, spending hours driving to drop her off to stay with me for training and showing and sharing her with us!

Rockland show weekend

Mia, Grayhart's American Woman
This weekend we attended the Rockland Kennel Club shows in Suffern, NY.  These are our local shows, close to home and a favorite venue.  We always enjoy seeing lots of friends and the shopping is terrific.  Our two Parker daughters, Mia and Jam, were entered and shown by Steve.  Mia, showed beautifully both days, won the open class on Saturday and went Reserve Winner's Bitch to the major and on Sunday, she was 3rd in her class. Off to more shows to try and finish her championship as she only needs a few single points to finish.
We only have a few phone shots of Jam, CH Grayhart's Purple Haze, CD, JH,AX, OAJ, SD, VX. She looked terrific in the Best of Breed class and was awarded Select Bitch both days for two Grand Champion Majors.  Jam has the three required majors for her GCH title and just needs singles to finish.
Jam
One of Jam's puppies, Ella, now 5 1/2 months old came to visit.  We were happy to see this adorable girl, who we have not seen since she left us at 8 weeks of age.  She recognized me and gave me tons of kisses.  Her owners are doing a wonderful job training her.  Ella, who was always very biddable, let me stack her with no fuss.  She's quite a cutie and we look forward to showing her.

AKC Meet the Breeds 2012

Last Sunday was a super busy day as we had volunteered to man the Weimaraner Club of America booth in the morning, at the 4th Annual AKC Meet the Breeds event held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City.  This is a huge event with over 200 breeds of dogs and cats plus demos and vendors.

I brought Mia, Grayhart's American Woman,CGC, to be my ambassadog for the WCA booth.   In the afternoon, Bonnie Lane came with Mia's sire, Parker, BISS GCH HiBourne's It's All About Me, BROM. The event was very crowded and everyone who walked by wanted a chance to pet, kiss and hug Mia.  And it was nonstop flashbulbs as too many people to count, wanted a photo op with our supermodel.

Mia turned on the charm and was an awesome representative for our breed, impressing everyone she met with her sweet disposition, stable temperament and terrific training.

The WCA booth was decorated with photos of Weims doing everything from agility, obedience, swimming, hunting, showing, etc. There were also informational handouts on the breed and books for people to peruse.

We were very proud of the great job Parker and Savi did representing our breed. The only catch is that everyone assumed that all Weims are as laid back and well trained as our crew...unfortunately that isn't the case. We spent a lot of time educating people on the characteristics of the breed (high energy, need for a tremendous amount of exercise, very intelligent) and what a huge commitment it is to own, train and socialize a Weim or else they can be destructive, skittish, wild and even aggressive. Yes, they are a beautiful breed but much more and not the right dog for most people.

Mia wins a 5-pt Specialty Major!!!

We are beyond thrilled that Mia, Grayhart's American Woman, CGC, (Parker x Trixie), owned by Michele Gravlin and myself, was Winner's Bitch and Best of Winner's at today's Garden State Weimaraner Club Independent Specialty show.  Mia won beautiful ribbons and fabulous trophies including a Weimstopper, shown above, and a metal dog sculpture wine holder.
Huge thanks to Steve Lane for showing Mia to this wonderful win. Once Steve showed Mia in the Winner's Bitch class, I had to take over handling duties so Steve could show daddy Parker in breed.  Mia hasn't seen me in months, which meant I was hiding from her until she finished showing  As soon as Steve left the ring, I took Mia while Steve got ready to show Parker.  Mia covered me in kisses and mud and then it was back to business when it was time to go into the ring and compete for Best of Winners.  We were successful going Best of Winners and Parker was awarded Select Dog!
A family portrait, from l-r: Daddy Parker, Mia and MommaTrixie.
Mia in the Best of Breed class.

Many thanks go out to the Garden State Weimaraner Club members for putting on another fabulous independent specialty with wonderful hospitality, famous hot/cold buffet lunch, wonderful raffle and friendship.  I am a member of this club and it was an honor for us to win at our own club's event.

GSA: Four shades of gray...till next time

l-r: Sky, Savi, Jam & Mia
On our last day of the Grayhart Southern Adventure (GSA), we took a portrait of the sisters, three of whom are littermates from our Parker, BISS GCH HiBourne's It's All About Me, BROM x Trixie, CH GraytSky's I'm Not Really A Waitress,CD,RN,AX,OAJ,V, BROM litter.  The litter-sisters are Sky, Jam and Mia.  Momma Trixie was home in New Jersey with Mia's owner, being spoiled while Mia hit the show circuit and hiking trails with us.

We had a wonderful trip and many thanks to our wonderful hosts in Charleston, Elena & Gary of Silversmith Farm and in Maggie Valley, NC, Debbie & Joe, Sky's owners.  KellyAnn and I had a fabulous time sightseeing, hiking, at the agility trials and dogs shows and spending time with friends.

It was not goodbye, but just until next time...we have big plans to get together in the future!
And when we released the dogs from their sit stays, guess who had to climb the dog walk? Savi!  It made for a great opportunity to stack her for our last official shot of the trip.

GSA: Grayhart Girls go to Greenville!

Our Grayhart Southern Adventure, (GSA), ended on a successful note at the three day show circuit in Greenville, SC.  These shows are some of the largest all-breed shows in the country with over 2500 dogs entered each day in conformation, obedience and rally.  The shows are held in the TD Convention Center which has ample air conditioning and a great setup with obedience in a separate area from the commotion of grooming and conformation.  This is one of my favorite venues and it doesn't hurt to have a ton of awesome vendors for a little shopping therapy.  I had two goals for the  weekend.  For Mia, it was to get her comfortable showing at her first indoor shows and be happy in the show ring as we are still in the process of training her to be a show dog.  For Savi, it was her debut in the obedience ring and I was hoping to get a qualifying leg or two.  Our focus has been on agility so I knew that some of the obedience exercises would need work, others would be solid, like her stays.
Mia made me proud!  She was a happy girl in the ring, wagging her tail when the judges went to examine her and she even tried to kiss them!  She sure didn't look like a newbie in the ring.
 Mia on the go round...
Each day, Mia got better and better.
She was so wiggly, wagging her tail that her whole butt moved and I had to hold her still for the judge to examine her.
Movement shot, a bit of a blur but all feet, human and canine in sync.
Savi was a good girl and showed what a star she could be, qualifying two days in a row for her first Novice B legs towards her CD or Companion Dog title!
Savi's down stay...even the judges smiled at her.
Her heeling needs improvement but her stand for exam and stays were excellent. Every dog activity has its challenges and rewards and all are a learning experience.
Not only did Savi qualify, but on the 2nd day at the Hendersonville Kennel Club show, she won the Highest Scoring Weimaraner in Obedience award and was given this lovely blue dog bed!
What a successful trip for Savi - first making her agility debut at the Tarheel Weimaraner Club Agility Trial and earning two qualifying legs, Novice Standard and Novice Jumpers with Weaves, with placements - a 1st and 2nd place respectively.  One week later, she earned two CD legs!  Versatility at its best!

You can check back to our previous posts for pictures and videos of our trip including videos of Trixie winning High Combined Weimaraner at the TWC Agility Trial and our awesome hikes in Pisgah National Forest as well as time spent with Debbie and Sky and Elena and Summit.
