2014 GSWC Independent Specialty Show

Trophies for the 2014 GSWC Independent Specialty & WCA Eastern Futurity/Maturity. Not all are pictured. Thank you to our talented club member, KellyAnn Kwiatek of 2K Designs, for the trophy design of the Weimaraner profile with scrollwork.
Sunday, October 5, 2014 was the annual Garden State Weimaraner Club Independent Specialty Show at North Branch Park. The club put on our usual outstanding show and everyone had a great time showing dogs, eating the delicious hot and cold buffet supplied by club members and winning raffle prizes.  As trophy chair, I was in charge of buying and organizing all the trophies and sponsors for them and was pleased with how they looked set up outside the ring and the winners seemed to enjoy them.

Our Grayhart entry at the show included three pups from our Fast Times litter (Parker x Savi), Ice, Grayhart's Going All the Way, CeCe, Grayhart's Almost Famous, CGC, and Reagan, Grayhart's Wild Life, NSD, and two pups from our Rockstar litter (Summit x Jam) Ella, Grayhart's How High the Moon, and Ember, Grayhart Light My Fire, CGC (major pointed).

After the big rainstorm the day before for the WCA Eastern Futurity, it was wonderful that the weather cooperated for our Specialty and was perfect.  The day began with the Sweepstakes and only Ice, CeCe and Reagan were eligible to compete.  What a thrill when CeCe, shown by Steve Lane, who is the breeder/owner of CeCe's sire Parker, went Best in Sweepstakes under breeder judge Michelle Govette!!!!
CeCe, Grayhart's Almost Famous, CGC, owned by KellyAnn & Chris Kwiatek & Linda Hartheimer, shown by Steve Lane, Best in Sweepstakes at the GSWC Independent Specialty Show!!!

In the Specialty Show, judged by Frank Washabaugh, CeCe, shown by Bonnie Lane, placed 3rd in her class. Reagan and Ice looked good in their classes but did not get any ribbons. Ember, was the only entry in the Bred-by-Exhibitor class and littermate, Ella, was 2nd in a large Open class. Ella went on to win Reserve Winners Bitch to the Specialty 5-pt major! I was so proud of Ella, who has had limited showing and showed her little paws off.
Ella, Grayhart's How High the Moon, owned by Brook Ryan and Linda Hartheimer, Reserve Winners Bitch to a 5-pt major at the GSWC Independent Specialty!

We had a great time with many of our Grayhart family visiting.  Nina, with Rigby, Grayhart's Rider on the Storm, TD, came to the show for a visit and Rigby was able to play with her littermates, Ella and Ember, who she hasn't seen since they were eight weeks old.  The day before after the Futurity, we took seven of our pups on a fun run at the park.

Ember's Major Win!!!!

We had an amazing win at the Mid-Hudson Kennel Club show in New Paltz, NY last weekend.  Ember, Grayhart's Light My Fire, CGC, from our Rockstar litter (Summit x Jam) went Winner's Bitch from the Bred-by-Exhibitor class and then on to go Best of Opposite in the Best of Breed class to earn a 3-point major win!  Ember defeated three bitch specials, including her mother, Jam, which gave her the additional bitch number needed to turn the 2-pt win into a 3-pt major!  This was unexpected and we were thrilled that Judge Pat Mowbray recognized our lovely Ember who moves with big sidegait.  She also commented how happy she was and we have to agree, Ember is a pistol and her tail never stops.
This was only Ember's 4th time in the show ring and she was solid and showed like a pro thanks to the wonderful training of her co-owners, Aimee and Josh.  They are training Ember for agility and obedience and plan to debut in those venues this fall.

Mia wins her 2nd Specialty Major at the WCWDC!!!

Mia, winning her first point in September
We are thrilled that Mia, Grayhart's American Woman, CGC, (Parker x Trixie) was Winner's Bitch/Best of Winner's for a 4-pt Specialty Major today at the Weimaraner Club of Washington DC (WCWDC) Specialty Show in Maryland under Judge Dr. Robert Smith.  Huge thanks go out to Bonnie and Steve Lane, (owners/breeders of Mia's sire, Parker) for showing Mia to this fabulous win.  Parker, GCH HiBourne's It's All About Me, BROM, was awarded Best of Opposite at today's Specialty.

This is Mia's 2nd specialty major win as she went WB/BOW for a 5-pt Specialty major at the Garden State Weimaraner Club Specialty Show last month.  Mia now has 11 show points, including 2 majors, and only needs 5 single points to finish her AKC Championship title.

More weekend show shots

Savi, free baiting during the BBE class on Sunday - can you see her tongue
I wanted to share more pictures from this past show weekend that my friend, Kellyann Kwiatek took.  Both Savi and Trudy showed Saturday and Sunday at the Rockland Kennel Club shows in Suffern, NY.  These shows are only fifteen minutes from home, which is a luxury and not only made for an easy commute but made it possible for us to have a post-show party back at the house for some of our close Weimaraner friends.  Also, being a local show, it was great to run into so many friends at the show. On Saturday, Savi was awarded a 3rd place ribbon in the BBE (Bred-by-Exhibitor) class and Trudy was 1st place in Open.  She did not get Winner's bitch to win the points that day.  On Sunday, we were all much more relaxed, and the stars were aligned for us to earn the big win.
Savi gaiting around the ring to get 1st place in the BBE class.
Trudy showed well and won the Open class.
Above, the Winner's Bitch class, composed of the class winner's and the judge then awards the bitch that will get the points.  l-r:  I'm handling Trudy, my friend Jenna, was kind enough to help out and handle Savi and the puppy class winner is in the rear.
The judge awarded Trudy Winner's Bitch and we were thrilled!  She needed three singles to finish her championship and this was a 3-point major win!
Our Long Island princess is now a champion and finished in style with three 3-point majors!

Trudy is now CH Grayhart's Special Reserve

Gray-t Weekend for the Grayhart Girls! Delaware Water Gap KC Show

Sunday was the Delaware Water Gap Kennel Club show and the Weims had an 8:00 am ring time.  No sleeping late for the princesses.  Trudy stayed with Pat in his room and my girls enjoyed going back and forth between Kel's room and mine in our suite.  They are truly creatures of comfort!
Sunday was a repeat performance of Saturday.  Ike was Winner's Dog and both Savi and Trudy won their classes.  Pat stayed on Trudy and I took Savi in for winner's.  I was thrilled when the judge pointed to Savi and she was Winner's bitch.  There was a major in dogs so Savi would have to go Best of Winner's to get the major.  Again, Michelle, our Weim friend, took Savi in for me while I showed Jam.  Michelle worked hard to show Savi off.

Jam showed really well and was full of attitude.  After all the champions were examined and lined up, the judge had the one dog special and Ike gate around together.  She then pointed to Jam and had us go to the front.  Then placed Savi second and then Ike.  She had the group go around together and the final results....Jam won Best of Breed, Savi was Best of Winners and Ike was awarded Best of Opposite!!!

This gave Jam a Grand Champion major and also earned Savi her second major.  Savi now only needs one single point to finish her AKC championship title.  We were just floating after the judging was over.
Jam - Best of Breed (unofficial win picture)

Since Jam went Best of Breed, we needed to wait around for the Group competition. The Sporting Group, was the last group before Best in Show. We had a lot of time to kill, so Kel and I bundled up and took the dogs for a long walk and then went out for Chinese food for lunch. We then visited the many vendors and did some shopping. It was a thrill to watch our friends show their Vizslas and see Jenna go Best of Breed with her special, Miles. Miles won the breed on Saturday and had gotten a Group 2.

The Sporting Group was late in the afternoon and since it was full of professional handlers and some of the top dogs in the country, my goal was just to have fun with Jam and make her shine.  Kel got some terrific shots of Jam and Miles in the group.
It takes about 20 minutes for each of the seven groups to be judged.  It is a long time for the dogs and you want to make them look their best when the judge is looking.

Congrats to Jenna and Miles for winning the Sporting Group and competing for Best in Show!!!

A wonderful end to a great weekend!  We look forward to the dog shows in 2012 and finishing Savi and Trudy's championships.  We plan to breed Jam in January so she won't be back in the show ring until after her maternity leave and she's in shape.

Gray-t Weekend for the Grayhart Girls! Lehigh KC Show

Kellyann and I headed off early Saturday morning to Allentown, Pennsylvania, for the last show weekend of the year.  We were looking forward to seeing friends and hoping that we could finish the year with a win.  What an amazing weekend it turned out to be, beyond our wildest expectations.
Savi, Winner's Bitch for 2 points!
Saturday was the Lehigh Kennel Club show.  I showed Savi in the bred-by-exhibitor class, which we won.  Pat O'Brien, who was there to show both our Trudy as well as a very nice puppy named Ike, out of Pat's dog Duke, littermate to Zeke, Trudy's sire.  Pat went winner's dog with Ike and then won the Open bitch class with Trudy.  Since Trudy is so attached to me, Pat and I decided to switch dogs and I took Trudy in for winner's and he handled Savi.  We were afraid that if I was standing behind Trudy, she would keep trying to turn and look at me.  Trudy was quite the happy girl and tried kissing me nonstop while I stacked her.  The judge even commented on my happy girl.  The judge pointed to Savi and she was Winner's Bitch for 2 points!

Next was the Best of Breed class and a fellow Weim friend took Savi in for me as I had to handle Jam.  Ike was picked for Best of Winners and Jam was awarded Select Bitch, earning Grand Champion points.
Jam in the Best of Breed class
This show has a Bred-by-Exhibitor competition and Savi was Best BBE Weim, so we waited for the BBE groups which did not start until mid-afternoon.  The BBE Sporting group was last.  After a long wait, it was finally our turn to show.  The group was quite competive, with eight sporting dogs, most of which had gone winner's for majors in their respective breeds.  Savi showed well and we had fun in the big group.
Yay!  The judge awarded Savi a Group 3!
Savi doing a bow while we played and had fun in the BBE group.
After a long day at the show, we rushed off to the hotel to meet Pat and Ike's owner, Sandra, and went out for a fabulous celebration dinner.  Back at the room, Savi and Jam had a wild play session, well deserved after being crated all day and strutting their stuff in the show ring.

Off to bed to get our beauty sleep for Sunday's show...

Trudy's Winning Weekend

Unofficial win photo, taken while we were setting her up for the real thing.
Our Long Island princess did us proud at this past weekend's shows on her home turf.  Trudy, Grayhart's Special Reserve, (Zeke x Trixie) began the weekend with a bang on Friday going Winner's Bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Opposite for two points, alongside her littermate, Mason, now CH Grayhart's Daily Special, who was Winner's Dog and finished his bench championship.

On Sunday, Savi, Grayhart's Shear Genius, JH, won the Bred-by-Exhibitor class, and then I quickly switched dogs and showed Trudy to win the Open class.  In Winners, Trudy strutted her stuff and won her 2nd 3-point major going Winner's Bitch and Best of Opposite.  She now only needs three single points to finish her AKC show championship.

The Grayhart Girls Great Southern Adventure - Part 5: Major Win for Savi!

Our trip down south just continued to get better and better, the first weekend with Jam's awesome agility trial performance, then, spending time training with Jessica and Diane, and then Savi's Futurity placement.  We were entered for all four days of the WCA Southern Regional show weekend and were set up comfortably near the Weim ring to view all the excitement and have the dogs close.  On Friday, the dogs showed well, with Savi and Sky, Grayhart Lightfoot Early Morning Rain,RN,JH,TD,NSD, both placing 4th in their classes.  Another day, another show....we had a good time with friends and hoped for better results the next day.

Well, Saturday was our day...I showed Savi, Grayhart's Shear Genius, JH,NSD,CGC (Clay x Trixie) and won the BBE (Bred-by-Exhibitor class).  The judge, Jim Martin, didn't even place us in order and after the last go round, pointed to us and said first place!  We then waited patiently for the Winner's class.  In the Open bitch class, Mia-belle went 2nd and Sky was 4th place.  Then we nervously went in for the Winner's class.   Everyone stacked their dogs, did the go around, then down and back and then the judge pointed to us... Savi was Winner's Bitch for a 5-point Major!!!!  I screamed in joy and then got my ribbon.  A friend then took Savi in the breed class for me, since Jam was also being shown and it would have been too distracting for her if I was in the ring.  Savi showed well and was awarded Best of Winners!

The results for the July 30th Greater Charleston Supported Entry at Spartenburg Kennel Club show...Savi, Grayhart's Shear Genius,JH,NSD,CGC, WB/BOW for a 5-pt major!  This was quite a thrill, especially doing it from the BBE class and it was wonderful to have some of our Grayhart family and friends there to cheer us on.  Savi now has 6-pts towards her AKC champion title.

The Southern Adventures - so much to tell

Well, we've had quite an exciting trip and too busy to blog plus no available computer to use.  When we return home, we will have lots of fun videos and pictures to post.

Our big news is that today, Savi won a 5-point major from the Bred-by-exhibitor class at the Greater Charleston Club Supported Entry at the Spartenburg KC show!  She then went on to win Best of Winners.  I am still on cloud nine and celebrating this awesome win.  It was wonderful to have a few of my puppy people and friends there to offer their support and congratulations.

Savi's show week began Thursday and we are proud of how well she showed in the Weimaraner Club of America Southern Futurity and went 2nd in the large intermediate futurity class.  Jam showed well in the Best of Breed class and made the cut in the specialty.

Our other Grayhart girls, Sky and Mia, were both in Open class, looking great.  Sky earned a 2nd and two 4th places and Mia went 2nd at today's show.

Sunday is the last day of shows at Greenville, SC and we look forward to taking the dogs for hike in the Smokey Mountains on Monday.

Exciting show news....Bravo, Grayhart Crescent's Bravo, (Clay x Trixie), went Winner's Dog and Best of Winner's for a 3-point major at the Kennel Club of Salinas show in Vallejo, CA, under Judge Dr. Harold Engel! Bravo was shown to this awesome win by his handler, Keith Pautz.  Owners Jay and Ron were thrilled to watch this terrific win under terrible, rainy conditions, but that didn't damper their excitement.  Bravo needs one more major to finish his show championship.  Congrats to Jay, Ron and Keith!

On the other coast, Trudy, Grayhart's Special Reserve, (Zeke x Trixie), went Winner's Bitch for 1-point under Judge Dana Cline at the New Brunswick Kennel Club show in Edison, NJ.  Trudy was shown by me, her co-owner/breeder.  Trudy now has 6 points towards her championship including a 3-pt major.

Down in North Carolina at the Durham Kennel Club Show in Raleigh, with a major entry, both Sky (Parker x Trixie) and Mia-belle (Zeke x Trixie), took placements, 2nd and 4th respectively, in the Open class.
