GSWC Spring Specialty

Mia
I've been a little behind in posting as the Spring is one of our busiest times of year.  A favorite show is the Garden State Weimaraner Club's Spring Specialty at Plainfield Kennel Club, part of the Memorial Day Cluster of shows held in Freehold, NJ.
The specialty was the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend  and as usual for this time of year, was an extremely hot and humid weekend.  We did what we could to keep dogs and people cool and safe from heat exhaustion.  It was a mini reunion of sorts with three of our Parker x Trixie pups being shown.  Above, Veronika showed Ranger, Grayhart's Midnight Lightening, in the Amateur Owner Handler class and did a great job for only her second weekend of showing him.
I was very excited to show Mia, Grayhart's American Woman, for the first time in the Bred-By-Exhibitor class.  Mia showed well in the Saturday show, wagging her tail for the judge and made us proud on Sunday, where she won the BBE class!
Mia on the move.  She is a show girl in training and already seems like a pro! Mia will be out this year pursuing her championship.

Parker, GCH HiBourne's It's All About Me, BROM was shown by owner/breeder, Steve Lane and looked fantastic.
 Parker on the move
Jam, CH Grayhart's Purple Haze,CD,JH,OA,OAJ,SD,VX, was also in the Best of Breed class with her daddy.
Jam showed well despite the heat.

Steve stacked Jam so we could get a 4th birthday picture of our very special girl!
No big wins for the Grayhart crew but we had a lovely time visiting with friends and enjoying our club's specialty show and luncheon.

Happy 3rd Birthday to our Jimi Hendrix (Parker x Trixie) Litter

Jimi Hendrix pups 36 days old
This was our first litter and all of these pups, not so little anymore, hold a very special place in our hearts. We have enjoyed watching them grow up and made lasting friendships with their owners, all part of our Grayhart family.  Even though the pups are spread across the country, from Long Island, NY & New Jersey, to North Carolina and Kansas, we get regular updates/ pictures and have had a number of mini-reunions. These dogs have accomplished so much and continue to excel in whatever their owners ask, from conformation, agility, tracking, hunting and just being the best family companions ever.

Happy Birthday to...
  • Marshall, CH Grayhart's In From the Storm (training for obedience)
  • Sky, Grayhart Lightfoot Early Morning Rain, JH,TD,RN,NSD,V, CGC (major pointed)
  • Ranger, Grayhart's Midnight Lightening (major pointed)
  • Mia, Grayhart's American Woman (in training for show, agility, obedience)
  • Monty, Grayhart's Stone Free, JH,CGC (in training for show & Senior Hunter)
  • Jam, CH Grayhart's Purple Haze, CD,JH,OA,NAJ,NSD,CGC,V (our Special & competing in agility/obedience/Senior Hunter)
Oh, and Jam had a great birthday weekend getting an Award of Merit at the Garden State Weimaraner Club Specialty show at Plainfield Kennel Club! Of course, we then went shopping and picked out fabulous new collars for our special girl.
Mia came for a visit at this weekend show & looks terrific!

Happy New Year!

Bliss, Grayhart's Launch My Line, our beautiful Alaskan princess.

2010 was a busy year full of family, friends and of course, Weims. We couldn't have imagined all the fun times and successes brought by the Grayhart dogs and their dedicated owners.  A highlight of the year was the Weimaraner Club of America National Specialty in May, in Gettysburg, PA, where every dog we had placed or won their classes in multiple venues and the wonderful time we spent with friends from all over the country.  Truly a time to be proud of our dogs. The AKC also welcomed us into their Breeder of Merit Program.

Last year was not all good times and we suffered a devastating loss, losing our beloved Wotan but we cherish the wonderful memories and time we shared with him.
We are grateful for all the support of our wonderful puppy people who give our pups the best homes possible.
***
We hope 2011 will bring everyone good health, happiness and prosperity.

Highlights of 2010:

These titles gave Jam the necessary requirements to earn her WCA "V", Versatile title. Additionally,  Jam also earned her 1st Senior Hunter leg and 1st obedience Companion Dog, (CD) leg. We are truly thankful to Pat O'Brien, Zeke's breeder/co-owner, for his friendship and handling of Mason to these awesome wins. Owner Jen continues to train Mason in obedience and agility.
  • Jersey, Grayhart's Goin Someplace Special, JH, completed her Junior Hunter title and welcomed baby brother Bryce into the world.  Jersey continues to train for her Senior Hunter title.

I hope that I haven't forgotten anyone but as you can see, it was a busy year. You can check the archives of our blogs, the main one, for Trixie and all our Grayhart pups, and the ones dedicated specifically to each of our dogs and we will continue to publish updates to share all the news and fun happenings as well as the Grayhart website.

It was great fun spending time with the pups and their owners, as well as old and new friends at shows. I especially loved being back in the field, training Jam, Savi and Monty and running them in the hunt tests.  We also enjoyed running and chairing the Garden State Weimaraner Club Hunt Test and look forward to doing it again in April.

    GSWC Specialty Show Shots

Last Sunday, we spent a glorious day showing and socializing at the Garden State Weimaraner Club's Annual Independent Specialty Show at North Branch Park in New Jersey. I was proud of how the Grayhart dogs showed, unfortunately, no big wins, but everyone had a wonderful time. The club put on a wonderful lunch buffet and the trophies that I had purchased, were well received.

A Parker son, not one of mine, Hibourne's Smarty Jones, aka Cooper, and breeder Steve Lane won Best in Sweeps! Congratulations!
Zeke's breeder Pat Obrien, seen here warming Trudy up for the ring.
Trudy, Grayhart's Special Reserve, showed well for a young pup.
Trudy on her down and back to the judge.
Bonnie Lane did a terrific job showing Ranger, Grayhart's Midnight Lightening, who won 1st place in the 12-18 month class.
Jam, Grayhart's Purple Haze, also strutted her stuff and looked great. We were the only entry in the 12-18 bitch class, which is hard as you need to set up super quick. This is the Sweeps judge and she is examining Jam.

Ranger, Grayhart's Midnight Lightning, made his show debut today with a bang, going Winner's Dog and Best of Winners, from the 9-12 month class, for a 4-point major at the Garden State Weimaraner Club Specialty at Plainfield Kennel Club. Ranger is out of our Trixie/Parker breeding and was expertly handled by Parker's breeder and owner, Steve Lane. Parker, CH Hibourne's It's All About Me, went Best of Opposite. It was an exciting day watching Ranger win and then to see him and his daddy in the ring together.

    Congratulations to Steve and Parker!!!

A huge thanks to Ranger's owners, Veronika and Patrick for all the hard work they have put into training and conditioning Ranger. We are very proud of you!

    Our Big Puppies

When Patrick and Veronika came to visit the puppies last Sunday, of course they brought Ranger, Jam's brother from our Trixie-Parker litter. These pups are almost 11 months old.Jam and Ranger had a blast running around the property and were quite evenly matched for wrestling.Ranger's visit to Camp Grayhart included an obedience lesson, show handling practice and lots of playtime with Jam. Jam in a down stay, watches as I teach Ranger how to walk properly on the leash.
    More playtime...

    Welcome to my house!

Good boy Ranger, practicing to be a show dog.
Ranger, aka Grayhart's Midnight Lightening, will be making his show debut the end of May.
More playtime with a game of tag...
Both Ranger and Jam slept quite soundly that night.
