Enjoying the fall

We are fortunate to live close to some fabulous state parks and Harriman State Park in New York is one of my favorites.  Last weekend, I took Trixie and Savi for a short hike and even though it is past peak fall foliage, it was still beautiful and we enjoyed having the trail to ourselves.
After the hike, we drove a short distance to one of the many lakes in Harriman and Savi did some water retrieving.

\Scenic view of the lake.
Savi even had an audience, a group of Japanese tourists, who thought she was quite entertaining. They were snapping away at her swimming and water retrieves.  Wonder if she'll show up on a travel blog!
Savi absolutely loves to swim and retrieve and it is terrific exercise.

We fit the hike and swim in before the sunset.

Fabulous Friday the 13th

No bad luck on this Friday the 13th!  In fact, it was a stellar weather day here in the Northeast and we took full advantage and took the dogs for a 3-hour hike to one of favorite local trails in Harriman State Park.  My friend, Lori, a fellow Weim lover, joined us for an afternoon of beautiful nature and great exercise.
The reward at the top of the trail - a view of New York City!  It was a bit hazy today, not as spectacular as on a clear day but still impressive.
Jam and Savi spent the hike hunting, exploring and just having a wonderful time and barely stopped for us to get photos.  They will sleep well tonight.
Trixie is the perfect hiking companion and will pose or do anything for a treat!

Snow hike

Trixie
Both the two-legged and four-legged family members enjoyed a hike on the snow covered trails at Harriman State park yesterday.  The weather was unusually warm and the trails were safe to walk on with little ice.  The dogs had a blast, ranging out and running all over the woods.

Did someone say duck?

After this morning's hunt test with Jam, which resulted in a fail due to her breaking before the shot, we took Savi on a terrific 5-mile hike along the TMI trail. No, not the Too-Much-Information trail, but the Tuxedo-Mount Ivy Trail through Harriman State Park.  Who knew we would stumble upon a pond with ducks?
Savi did a super job, went on point and held until I called her back to us.
We were quite a distance away and she made me proud by listening to the "whoa" command and then came as soon as I called her.
I guess I took the wrong dog to the hunt test!  Savi will get her turn to next weekend.

Three heads are better than one...

Savi almost climbed this tree!
On a recent hike at Harriman State Park, the dogs had a field day chasing squirrels and finding nests and other interesting smells in many of the down trees from the recent storms.
All three girls got in on the act...
Jam is in the orange collar, Trixie in green and of course, Savi is in pink.

They never caught anything but had a ball trying!

Happy Hiking at Harriman

What to do on a perfect September day?  Go hiking of course at one of our favorite places, Harriman State Park.  It was cool in the woods and Jam and Savi were excited to run and run and run...
Jam stopped to point a deer in the distance and we were thrilled to see Savi back her.
 Savi backing Jam...
Jam on a deer point!
Smiling Savi, she sure enjoyed our hike.
And even treats, the girls think this is the best thing ever, especially doled out by Kellyann.

Winter Wonderland Hike - Harriman State Park

Me and Trixie...yes, I'm wearing a ChillyDog fleece headband that matches her coat!
The trails at Harriman State Park glistened with the fresh snow and we enjoyed a strenuous hike through the virgin snow.
Trixie, Savi and Jam, getting rewards for their great recall.
The morning light was just amazing and I regretted forgetting my camera at home.  Fortunately, I had my phone and got some pretty good shots.
A perfect place for the dogs to range out and stretch their legs.
Our own private winter paradise!

Savi's Sunset Swim

After a late afternoon hike on our favorite trails at Harriman State Park with all three girls, we took Savi for a quick swim to cool off at one of the lovely lakes.
Even though it's been a few weeks since she last swam, Savi didn't hesitate for a second and went right in to retrieve the bumper.
We won't divulge exactly where we go as we know that people who read the blog are inspired by our outings and try go to the cool places we go, but we don't want to spoil the uncrowded trails and lake areas which are our little secret...I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
