Jam turns 4!

Photos by Michael Demkiw
Hard to believe that our little purple collared puppy is now four years old!  Jam is so special to us in more ways than I can describe.  She is our keeper from our very first litter, our first home bred champion bitch and our first registered Delta Therapy dog.  Additionally, she is talented, versatile and beautiful whether appearing in high fashion ads or gaiting around the show ring!  She also has a sweet and calm temperament but can turn on the drive when necessary.
Jam with Steve Lane, owner/breeder handler of Parker, Jam's sire, who helped finish Jam's championship by putting her two majors on her.  Jam will be selectively specialed, while pursuing her Excellent level agility titles and Senior Hunter title.  Join us for Jam session!

Waterfall

Sky, CH Grayhart Lightfoot Early Morning Rain,RN,JH,NA,NAJ,NSD,NRD,CGC,VX, at the waterfall that feeds the lake at Sequoyah Woods, in Brevard, NC. Debbie reported that it took a lot of effort to get this lovely shot, "The funny story was Anne taping trying to get Sky to stand still for the photo and my frustration after the 4th time she moved. But I think the result was worth the effort lol!"

Strut Your Mutt 2012

l-r: Savi, Jam, Trixie and June
This past Sunday, we joined our friend, KellyAnn and her awesome gray girl, June of Hotdog Junie fame, to attend Strut Your Mutt 2012, a terrific fundraising event for Happy Tails Animal Rescue.  There was a walk-a-thon around the lake at Wood Dale Park, fun contests for the dogs, treats for people and pets as well as a fabulous raffle.  Our group of four grey girls were quite the hit and made lots of new friends.  People couldn't get over how beautiful and friendly they were.
June was a star and won the Best Chowhound contest!  Her ribbon says "Most Eager Eater!"  It was fun contest and Trixie and Jam tied for 2nd place!  Our girls beat out labs and pugs and many other breeds and mixes, having no problem chowing down on lettuce, carrots and even pickles!

Another contest our girls excelled in was the "who could stay the longest".  Both Savi and Trixie made it to the semi-finals against two labs and then Trixie and the dog trainer's lab, the person running the contests, were in the finals.  So proud of Trixie holding for out of sights while I hid behind a tree, during distractions of dogs walking around her and tennis balls being thrown.  Trixie was awarded the Longest Stay ribbon.
As part of the registration, we were given gift bags and the girls were given bandannas to wear.

Our Weimaraners were amazing ambassadors for the breed.  They really were on their best behavior and hit it out of the park when we met a visually impaired boy and talk about an impromptu therapy dog visit, made this little boy's day.  He loved the Weims and especially Junie's peach fur, stating she was as soft as a pillow.  The girls also greeted some seniors in wheel chairs, bringing smiles to everyone they met.

It was a super day as we enjoyed the perfect weather and supported a great cause!

Working girl

Savi did a fabulous high fashion editorial photo shoot Friday for a top international fashion magazine.  The studio was located at Chelsea Piers in New York City.   While waiting to be called to set, Savi hung out on the gorgeous outdoor roof deck. We look forward to seeing the spread in the August issue of the magazine.
Our agent Nancy from AllTame and the client's representative.  You can see Savi adores them!
The diva hard at work!

Field trip

At obedience class Thursday night, we took a field trip to the local train station.  What better way to incorporate real life distractions into our training regimen.  Above, group stays and below, Savi, practicing her stand for exam, waiting to be examined.  We also did off lead recall and Savi nailed them as well held her stays.  A bonus was to enjoy the beautiful spring evening during class and walking to and from the train station!

Future Agility Star

Savi, demonstrating her agility skills at the Annual TSWR Picnic.  Like her Momma and sisters, she knows how to fly over the jumps.  Savi still needs work on her weave poles but loves the contact equipment and is very responsive on course.  We hope for her to make her agility debut this summer.

Mother's Day Gifts!

Trixie with her 1st place and new title ribbons!
Happy Mother's Day!

We spent Mother's Day at the Nutmeg Portuguese Water Dog Club (PCNUT) Agility trial held at FDR Park in Yorktown Heights, NY.  It was a hot day in the 80's but that didn't deter agility enthusiasts from all over the tri-state area and it was terrific to see many friends and their talented dogs.

We had a successful day and I'm proud to announce that Trixie, CH GraytSky's I'm Not Really A Waitress,CD,RN,OA,OAJ,V BROM, completed her Open Agility Jumpers With Weaves (OAJ) title with a 1st place!!!
Trixie's daughter, Jam, also had a terrific day and in her Excellent A Jumpers with Weaves run qualified with a 2nd place to earn her 2nd Exc A JWW leg.  One more and she'll earn her AKC Agility Excellent Jumpers (AXJ) title.
Sky
And one of Trixie's other daughters and Jam's littermate, Sky, CH Grayhart Lightfoot Early Morning Rain,RN,JH,TD,OA,OAJ,VX, also had a fun agility weekend in South Carolina.  Sky made her debut in Open Agility Standard and JWW.  Although she didn't qualify, she made owner/handler Debbie proud by running well, with focus and drive, and received many compliment.  As we all know, agility is a learning process and there are always new skills to teach our dogs as we move up in levels as well as to continue to reinforce obstacles and handler skills.

In the conformation ring, Ranger, Grayhart's Midnight Lightening, Jam & Sky's littermate, competed in a conformation match on Long Island and handled by owner Veronika, earned a Group 3!  Congratulations to Veronika and Ranger!

Spring hikes with Sky

From Sky's blog - Sky is CH Grayhart Lightfoot Early Morning Rain, RN,JH,TD,NA, NAJ,VX (Parker x Trixie)

This sign (above) is actually on the Balsam Preserve side of the gate, but thought it would be a perfect photo opp! We saw many lovely wildflowers on todays hike, along with a baby bird just testing it's wings, a lizard, and most exciting, Sky pointed a grouse at the edge of the trail and held her point until the grouse flushed! I was so excited of course I failed to get a picture, but I am so proud of her holding on this wild bird!

Morning in the Mountains - walk near Lake Logan

Snapped this shot of Sky before meeting friend Susan to walk a fire road near Lake Logan.
Sky enjoyed a nice roll in the grass after our 6.8 mile walk, we all sat around for about an after returning to the cars just enjoying the beautiful day and peaceful surroundings.

We cannot wait to visit Debbie and Sky this summer and experience these beautiful hiking trails first hand!

Cinco de Weimo!

Trixie during her demo
A fun day was had by all at the Tri-State Weimaraner Rescue's 6th Annual Picnic held at the Ironwood Outdoor Center in Lumberton, NJ.  The forecast was for a sunny day in the 80's but that never happened and the temps stayed cool in the high 60's and the day was overcast.  The drab weather did not ruin the day and it was amazing to see dozens of Weims run loose together, playing and socializing, while their owners enjoyed good food and a terrific raffle.
Savi takes a turn
We volunteered to bring some agility equipment for a demo and to let the other Weims take a try at our favorite sport.
Trixie sported her new Mod Dog collar for the occasion...
Ha, I'm the Weim Whisperer! This is only about half the dogs that ended up surrounding me and sitting for a treat!
A mix of gray and blue Weims frolicked in the huge fenced area and the people food was kept in the smaller fenced area by the pool.
Trying to get a group picture with all those people and dogs was a challenge for sure!
This was an excellent fundraiser for a great cause.  At the end of the summer, TSWR holds another event at Ironwood where the dogs get to swim in the pools before they are drained for the season.

Weims on Display

The school where I teach has a display cabinet in the lobby that was a gift from the Home & School Association.  The staff was asked to volunteer if they had a collection that they wanted to share and display in the case.  There were displays of Bugles, Beanie Babies and Angels. Finally, it was my turn and of course, my passion is Weimaraners, so this display was created.
I dedicated one shelf of the display to my show dogs; conformation, agility, obedience and field pictures decorated the shelf along with ribbons.
The lower shelf showcase our models, Jam, Trixie and Savi, in their ads and books.
Books and other fun Weimaraner collectables rounded out the display with my prized Best in Futurity Dog trophy.  Many students and staff have found the display quite interesting and love looking at the dogs.
