These pups have won the hearts of their owners and everyone they meet.  Thank you to all the wonderful owners for not only giving these pups the best homes but letting them shine!  We have also made incredible friendships through the mutual love of these pups.

We are proud of the accomplishments of this litter in such a short period of time:
  • Bravo,  Multiple Best of Breed winner, GCH Grayhart Crescent's Bravo, CGC. With limited showing, Bravo finished 2012 the #15 Weimaraner in the country! AKC Grand Champion with multiple Best of Breed wins, and was Best Dog in the 2011 Western Futurity!
  • Bliss, Grayhart's Launch My Line, futurity placing and at a very competitive 2011 WCA Nationals, placed in almost every class.
  • Savi, CH Grayhart's Shear Genius,SH,NSD,NRD,V,CGC, our keeper and star.  Futurity placing, she finished her championship with going Best of Winners for 5-point and 3-point majors from the Bred-By-Exhibitor class. Savi earned her Senior Hunter title and has NA and NAJ agility legs with placements and only needs one more novice leg to earn her CD, Companion Dog obedience title. She is in training to be a PetPartner therapy dog.  Her modeling career continues and Savi has appeared in ads for Swiffer, the Gap and in British Vogue.
  • This will be an important year for Savi as she will be bred to Parker, Group Placing, Multiple Best of Breed, GCH HiBourne's It's All About Me, BROM.

We look forward to watching these pups continue to grow and blossom.

Pups in Motion

After our weekly puppy class with three of our Trixie-Clay pups and Jam, the big sister, it's playtime! On the patio, from left to right, Treynor, Savi, Jam and Memphis.

The pups will be 5 months old in a week. The commands/skills that we are currently working on in class are:
  1. Go to your bed, which I call place. This was started a few weeks ago and now we are starting to send the dogs from a distance. We use the Pipe Dream PVC beds in the backyard for this exercise. The raised bed reinforces the concept of a specific place.
  2. Recall with distractions. On lead with high value treats and with a sit before treating if done correctly.
  3. Down, without the handler bending
  4. Heeling with attention. We just started this last week. Start with food at your pant seam, the pup looking up for just 3 steps and reward. The pups did really well and we could move a few more steps at a faster pace once they were warmed up.
  5. Jam plays a very important role during class. She is put in a sit or down stay, which reinforces her advanced obedience training but during social time she becomes a teacher. When the boys become too rambunctious or inappropriate, Jam takes her job of putting them in their place very seriously and we encourage her to do it so that they learn proper behavior from an older bitch who tells them off but won't rip a jugular.
This is the age where that once cute, perfect pup becomes an adolescent and regresses in their training as they are easily distracted, may go through a fear period or assert their independence. The period between five and eighteen months will bring new adventures and will be most trying. Between teething and adolescence, Weim owners need a good sense of humor and control over their dog. Please remember that Weimaraners are still puppies until at least two years of age.

Formal training is very important and sets the foundation for a lifetime of good behavior. If you've taken a beginner class, you should probably continue with the next class or think about agility, rally or some field work, anything, but something... Remember that Weimaraners need a lot of mental stimulation and exercise. The more you do with them the happier they will be and you too.

Savi and the boys after puppy class

We are so fortunate that Savi, Memphis & Treynor are able to take puppy classes together at a high quality training school owned by my friend and dog behaviorist, Kathy Santo. Puppy classes are critical and the foundation for a lifetime of good behavior and proper socialization. Big sister Jam gets to practice her more advanced skills with the distractions of puppies. At just 14 weeks old, our pups are already learning the commands of how to sit, down, their names, come, leave it, place, and walk nicely on lead. Practice at home reinforces and helps the pups understand the commands and that they get rewarded for offering the correct behavior/command.
Savi says it's time to go home now...

We had an opportunity after puppy class last week to take stacked shots of the pups. It is so much fun to be able to see them grow up and train the puppies together.

Best Buds

We've received fabulous reports of the Bravo litter pups settling into their new homes. Yesterday, three of the local pups, Savi, Treynor and Memphis, had their first puppy class with dog trainer and friend, Kathy Santo. These pups are already showing what great performance dogs they will grow into. We worked on building control, sit and some basic manners. The pups and owners even have homework! Above, Memphis strutting his stuff in the our backyard after class.
Room for three to share this big branch.
