New Junior Hunter title for Monty!
Monty is now Grayhart's Stone Free, JH! Monty earned his last required leg to finish his Junior Hunter title at the Eastern German Shorthair Pointer Club hunt test on Saturday at Buttonwood Preserve in NJ. He was handled and has been trained by me, his breeder and is a joy to run. This is Junior Hunter #3 for the Trixie x Parker litter, and #4 for dam Trixie.
Thank you to Monty's owners for their support and allowing me the opportunity to borrow and train this wonderful boy! He has an outstanding temperament, has tons of natural ability and loves running in the field. Now, we start training for Senior Hunter with sister Jam.
The day was not just about running the dogs but visiting with friends, celebrating their successful runs and playing with the dogs.
Monty's sire, Parker, BISS CH HiBourne's It's All About Me, earned his first JH leg! Congrats to owner/breeder Bonnie Lane.
We were thrilled that Michele and Mia, Grayhart's American Woman, were able to come and spend the day. Michele learned all about hunt tests, was able to watch Monty and Parker run in Junior and see Jam in the bird field during her Senior run. One of the EGSP club members was extremely helpful and explained how Senior Hunter works and what the dogs were doing and what the judges were looking for while Jam and her brace mate were working the bird field. A great opportunity for them to learn about the more advanced and challenging levels of hunt tests. We worked with Michele and Mia on some show handling and Jenna Iacobellis, a professional handler, was kind enough to stack Mia for us to get the lovely stack shot.
Although we didn't get any pictures of Savi, she was with us and had a blast playing with all different kinds of pointing dogs, demanding attention from people and was rewarded with a bird to carry around...a great day for our little pup!

Savi and the boys after puppy class
We are so fortunate that Savi, Memphis & Treynor are able to take puppy classes together at a high quality training school owned by my friend and dog behaviorist, Kathy Santo. Puppy classes are critical and the foundation for a lifetime of good behavior and proper socialization. Big sister Jam gets to practice her more advanced skills with the distractions of puppies. At just 14 weeks old, our pups are already learning the commands of how to sit, down, their names, come, leave it, place, and walk nicely on lead. Practice at home reinforces and helps the pups understand the commands and that they get rewarded for offering the correct behavior/command.
Savi says it's time to go home now...

Monty earn his 2nd Junior Hunter leg
Monty, Grayhart's Stone Free, earned his 2nd Junior Hunter leg at the Vizsla Club of Greater New York hunt test at Assunpink Wildlife Management Area. I was so proud of how Monty ran and he earned fantastic scores, all 9's and even a 10 in bird finding! He found 4 birds and had beautiful, solid points on all of them. We go back tomorrow and hope to get another leg. Too bad his littermate Jam was too enthusiastic about the birds in her Senior Hunter run...no grabbing those bird, ugh!

Junior Hunter leg for Monty!
Monty, Grayhart's Stone Free, handled by his breeder, earned his first Junior Hunter leg this past Saturday, at the Pointer Club of Central New Jersey's hunt test. The test was held at the beautiful grounds of the Freeland Kennel Club in Weatherly, PA.
Sunday's test, hosted by the Garden State Weimaraner club was chaired by me and secretaried by my husband with his able assistant, our daughter, was a success. We had gorgeous weather, a nice size entry and terrific food catered by club members. A good time was had by all and we hope to make this an annual event. It was a long, exhausting weekend and a lot of work and I'm still catching up...
Monty ran well again on Sunday but did not pass. He found three birds and only had a solid point on one of them and we ran out of time to find another bird for a point. The AKC rules state that Junior dogs must point 50% of the birds so the numbers were not in our favor.
and if you're wondering what happened to Jam on her debut in Senior, well she didn't qualify either day but made us proud with a good effort on Sunday. She was very close to passing and then broke two seconds before the shot. She performed well in all the other categories and the judges and spectators were all impressed with this young bitches ability in the field. We'll just keep training and try again next weekend.

Hunt Test Weekend in the Poconos
Jam's hunt weekend where she will make her debut in Senior Hunter is finally upon us. Her littermate, Monty, will also be running for the first time in Junior Hunter. The van is loaded and we are off to the Poconos and hope to return with lots of orange qualifying ribbons. I am also chairing the hunt test on Sunday for the Garden State Weimaraner Club and we received a good size entry and look forward to a great day.

11 week stacks; Savi, Memphis, Treynor
***
We had an opportunity after puppy class last week to take stacked shots of the pups. It is so much fun to be able to see them grow up and train the puppies together.
