S-P Pups Day 4: Bio-Sensor for Super Dogs

The Bio-Sensor or "Super Dog" method is a tool we use to help ensure our puppies develop superiorly both physically and mentally. Developed by the U.S. Military, the Bio-Sensor method is a series of exercises performed on puppies starting at day 3 and ending on day 16. Each exercise is performed one time, for a specific amount of time, daily during this time period. It is important not to perform each exercise more than once per day or for increased amounts of time as it could over stress the puppies. These exercises would not occur naturally during this time frame and work by requiring the pup's neurological system to kick in earlier than normal.Studies have shown that Bio-Sensor puppies have:

• Improved cardio vascular performance
• Stronger heartbeats
• Stronger Adrenal Glands
• Increased tolerance to stress and
• Greater resistance to disease

Studies also show that Bio-Sensor pups are far less affected by stressful situations than pups that do not have these exercises performed. They were more calm and able to perform learning tests with fewer errors.

The benefits from this early neurological stimulation have lasting effects on puppies, lasting a lifetime if proper enrichment and socialization is provided during the dogs life!

We believe this is an important tool in developing puppies and in our breeding program.

Securely holding the pup in an upright position with head over tail. This position is then reversed and the pup is held tail over head in a secure hold. Each exercise is performed for 3-5 seconds.

S-P Pups Day 3: A New Look

 

It's been a busy few days and yesterday was the pups tail docking and dewclaw removal. Now, they truly do look like miniature Weimaraners, well almost. They spend their days eating, sleeping and toddling around the box.  The pups have become quite adept at crawling all over the whelping box but they are developing quite quickly and getting very close to walking. I have to say that there is nothing cuter than seeing little Weim pups teetering and walking.

These pups are good little eaters. The pups not only use their paws to help stay in position but the pushing against the mammary glands helps stimulate the milk flow.

The pups received their first mani/pedis to clip those already long nails.  We use a child size nail clipper and when the pups are older, will switch to the dremel.

 We will begin the Bio Sensor exercises today to make these pups Super Dogs!

S-P Pups: From birth & Day 1

We have been super busy getting the Fast Times litter settled and just spending time with these adorable pups. I had time to upload the photos we took during the whelping and the first day.   Savi had an easy time whelping the pups, which made things less stressful for us and it was a textbook whelping.  As soon as the first pup was born, we broke the sack, made sure the pup could breath, carefully suctioned any fluid from the mouth so it wouldn't be swallowed and end up in the lungs, dried the pup and then took care of cutting and cleaning the umbilical cord.  We then let Savi take over, as she was anxious to do, and the pups began nursing.  We would then clean the whelping box and get ready for the next pup.

After each pup was born, Savi was given a bowl of vanilla ice cream - she loved that part!  It wasn't just a celebratory treat but a needed boost of calcium to help with the contractions and extra nourishment.  The bowl was always licked clean!

What was amazing was that Savi would eat her ice cream, and a little while later burp (such manners!) and then pant a little and push out a pup!  That became the pattern - Burp, Pant & Push!

They are thriving, nursing at the milk bar and all gaining weight.

Introducing our Fast Times Pups

We are thrilled to announce the arrival on May 9th of our Fast Times Litter - 4 Girls and 3 Boys!!!  They are produced by Parker, Multiple Group Winning, Best in Specialty Show, GCH HiBourne's It's All About Me, BROM and our Savi, CH Grayhart's Shear Genius, SH, NSD, NRD, V, CGC, PetPartner's Therapy Dog. Stage crew included me, Savi's breeder and her personal pupparazzi, Jo and Kel, who were a huge help in making this show a success. True to the litter's name, this bunch arrived in a timely fashion, all 7 in 3 hours and with daylight!

Miss Purple opened the show, making her appearance at 4:53 PM.  After each pup, Savi was served vanilla ice cream in a silver bowl!  Not only did she love this special treat to help give her nourishment but the calcium in the ice cream helped to produce contractions for the next pup.

Pup #2, Miss Pink followed at 5:34 PM.  The pups nursing on her also helped to stimulate contractions.  The first liquid to come out is called colostrum, and is extremely nourishing to the pups containing antibodies.  The mother's milk will come in a day or so.

Pup #6, Mr. Blue made his appearance at 7:27.  We thought Savi was done until the warning signs of another pup showed up.  After each serving of ice cream, Savi would burp, then pant and push out another pup. Well, we were surprised when she burped and we quickly cleared the box of the pups, putting them in their warming box.  True to form, burp, pant and push, to another gray pup!  So for an encore, lucky #7, Mr. Orange closed the show at 7:57 PM.

Mom and pups are doing well and have been nursing through the night.  Savi has been a wonderful first time mom, nursing the pups and keeping them immaculate.

Announcing the Fast Times Litter!

What a fabulous birthday present - Savi whelped 7 beautiful healthy pups, 4 girls and 3 boys!  Savi was amazing, especially for a first time mother, whelping all seven in three hours and remained calm and relaxed throughout the entire process.  The litter theme is based on Cameron Crowe movies and Fast Times at Ridgemont High is a classic.

The proud papa is Parker, Multiple Group Winning, Best in Specialty Show, GCH HiBourne's It's All About Me, BROM and the mother, Savi is officially known as CH Grayhart's Shear Genius, SH, NSD, NRD, CGC, V.

We will be posting many photos and videos to document the growth of these wonderful pups.

Rockstar Reunion

Last weekend was a super busy one with us competing at the Staten Island Dog Training Club Agility trial and we combined it on Sunday with a mini-Rockstar Litter Reunion. We love our puppy people and they cheered Jam and I on while we ran in Masters Standard and Jumpers courses.  A few of the pups are training for agility and they thought it was cool to see Mama Jam do her thing.  We didn't qualify but Jam ran with drive and great attitude.

Savi Preggers Day 61

Only a few days until Savi is due to whelp her litter of puppies.  Canine pregnancy is 63 days from ovulation and based on the progesterone testing, we are able to pinpoint the optimal time for breeding and the bitches due date.  Savi is feeling great and it is amazing to see and feel the little pups inside her.  We've been taking her temperature and once it drops to 98 degress (normal dog temp ranges from 99 to 101), labor will begin in 24 hours. There will also be other signs of labor including panting, nesting and an urge to go potty.  Although there is no doggy Lamaze, we do monitor her closely, and help keep things moving along with supervised walks and ice cream for Calcium to improve contractions. Now, the waiting game begins...
